As the economic centre of NSW’s Hunter region and home to the state’s second-highest population, it’s not surprising that Jirsch Sutherland chose Newcastle as the location for its second office – the first reconstruction and insolvency practice in the Hunter Valley region.
Since Partner Lloyd Kerr opened the Newcastle office in 1993 to provide local businesses and individuals with tailored insolvency services, it has grown in both numbers and presence.
Today, Lloyd and fellow Partners Bradd Morelli and Stewart Free guide a tight-knit, hands-on team, which is known for its extensive experience and expertise, strong local knowledge and relationships, and dedication to achieving the best outcomes while minimising the financial and emotional stresses often associated with insolvency.
Many of our Newcastle team literally ‘go the extra mile’ by regularly consulting with clients throughout the state’s mid north and north-west including the Hunter Valley, Hawkesbury, Central and Mid-North Coasts and New England regions.
Just as the region’s economy has changed over the years, so too has the Newcastle office. Currently, the majority of our clients are in the transport sector, although we also deal with those within building and construction, engineering, labour hire, steel fabrication, retail and hospitality sectors. The services sector is also becoming an important part of our Newcastle team’s client base as it forms a growing part of Newcastle’s economy.
Our team is renowned for taking the time to understand local businesses and communities, particularly their challenges, issues and aims. We do this by nurturing strong relationships with professional and financial services firms, being active members of the Hunter Chamber of Commerce and keen participants in charities and fund-raising events including Surfest, Wheeling and Able and the Aspect Hunter School.
Under Stewart’s guidance, the entire team supports the Vanuatu Surfing Association and the informal Do Something initiative that raises funds for the island nation’s communities.
