Coming full circle: industry veteran ‘re-joins’ WA team

Gary Anderson

Highly experienced insolvency veteran Gary Anderson has joined WA Insolvency Solutions (WAIS), the Western Australian division of Jirsch Sutherland, as a Business Director.

With over 35-years’ experience in corporate insolvency administrations and personal bankruptcy matters, Gary brings a considerable wealth of knowledge and expertise to the firm.

“The move to Jirsch Sutherland provides me with a greater depth of support and a wider range of potential avenues for further insolvency work,” says Gary. “The company has a very strong presence in Western Australia and I believe that I’ll be able to enhance that. I have a broad range of contacts and experience, which I think will complement each other.”

Coming full circle

Having commenced his insolvency career in the mid-1980s with prominent WA insolvency firm Melsom Wilson and Partners (a business that later transitioned to become the current WA Insolvency Solutions practice), Gary says his move represents the completion of a full career circle.

“To some extent, I’m going back to the firm that I started with some 35 years ago,” he explains. “Chris Williamson was there when I joined and then Kim Strickland joined about 10-years later. So taking this position had some appeal because I’d previously worked with basically the founders of the WA operation of Jirsch Sutherland.”

To date, Gary’s decades-long insolvency career has seen him work with many companies across a broad range of industries, including mining, building and construction, engineering and manufacturing, and agriculture. In 1996, he founded his own insolvency and recovery services business before merging it with HB Mann Judd in 2013.

“Over the last 35-years I’ve handled all types of industries, both big and small,” he says. “I’ve handled very large construction companies and public companies, as well as retail outlets, hotels, restaurants and liquor stores. What you need to bring to this type of work is the ability to listen to people and then identify what the real problem is. But most importantly, you’ve got to have good common commercial sense.”

WA Insolvency Solutions Managing Partner Kim Strickland says Gary’s appointment will benefit the firm greatly.

“Having worked with Gary extensively in the past, I’m delighted that our professional paths have crossed once again,” he says. “He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our practice, and I’m sure our capabilities will be boosted significantly as a result. With his professionalism and dedication to clients being second-to-none, it should be no surprise that we’re very excited to have him on board as we move forward into the future.”
